Compare and Contrast Religions and Revolutions

In Their Own Words, So You Can Decide.

[August 25, 2026] Whether we are religious, agnostic, or atheistic, what we pray for tells us a lot about who we are. By comparison, what they (Islam, Christianity, Judaism) pray for reveals who they really are, as well as what are their goals and aspirations. At least, according to the author of the newly released book “What Do They Pray For?”

In the second of his “In Their Own Words” series, “What Do They Pray For?”, David S. Levine allows the reader to compare and contrast the three Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism). The book explores and presents this question by comparing three themes: 1. How a religion deals with and relates to Disbelievers; 2. What is the religion’s position on Domination, Supremacy, and Conversion; and 3. What is its vision for Peace.

The unique presentation of his books includes many relevant foundational texts and prayers sourced from the religion in question. Therefore, the reader can clearly and unbiasedly “compare and contrast”. There is also a deep Notes and Sources section, as well as appendices with additional details.

Levine’s previous book in this series (“Revolutions”) presents many of the songs, poetry, and slogans that are culturally reflective and relevant of their time, unlike typical history books. The book covers six revolutions: American, French, Russian, Cuban, Israel, and Palestine. Each chapter presents a short history overview of each revolution being discussed, then a collection of their songs and slogans. This allows the reader to “compare and contrast” the true expressions of each cause, in their original words, to be able to reach their own conclusions about each revolution. There is also a deep Notes and Sources section, as well as appendices with additional details, so the reader can verify the material presented.

Levine acknowledges that since history is written by the victors, it is more accurate to describe and reflect each revolution’s true cause by reading their own words. And under the topic of religion, it is their original foundational texts that drive their prayers which compel their actions; not the words of the media, politicians, or deflective public statements of their religious or activist leaders.

The structure of each book of the “In Their Own Words” series provides the reader with the opportunity to easily “compare and contrast” the topic. This can lead to better informed conclusions and perhaps more questions, rather than just following inflammatory rhetoric.

Because Levine used material sourced from the religion or revolution in question, rather than historic or academic interpretations, his text and the deep Notes and Sources sections confirm and provide the reader with primary information to base a meaningful “compare and contrast” in order to self-create an accurate perspective on the topic.
